Ramsey Lewis has long straddled the limit between bop-oriented jazz and pop music. Most of his recordings (in particular by the mid-'60s) were identical accessible and attracted a gravid non-jazz audience. In 1956, he formed a triad with bassist Eldee Young and drummer Red Holt.
