The quest for the hottest ticket in town

After nigh 20 age of writing about entertainment, professional instincts compel me to attempt the Place To Be on whatsoever given nox. Without question, the Place to Be on Thursday is Invesco Field at Mile High, the Denver stadium where Barack Obama will deliver his acceptance speech.

Everyone, regardless of political orientation, should want to go, if only for the experience of standing where the eyes of the nation and world are focused. John McCain might study sneaking in disguised with Rudy Giuliani's infamous wig and get dressed.

Invesco seating area around 75,000 people, but it is the toughest ticket in ithiel Town. Many are reserved for Democratic donors and VIPs. The 5,000 rule delegates are guaranteed seats, as are the 15,000 or so journalists credentialed for the convention.

I am not among those officially canonic scribes. So weeks agone, I applied for a civilian "Community Credential" through the Democratic convention Web site. Each state was allotted a certain number of such credentials. They were available to anyone regardless of party tie-up, or want thereof.

I submitted my request by the deadline -- and heard nothing.

Time for plan B.

In college, my buddy Kenny and I crafted fake backstage passes from a CD long box -- turns forbidden those composition board monstrosities weren't entirely useless -- and strolled undisputed into a Rolling Stones concert.

But the Secret Service certificate at Invesco will be considerably tighter than that provided by disinterested Superdome ticket-takers. Much of downtown Denver is on lockdown; a stretch out of Interstate 25 nigh the sports stadium is organism closed for four hours. And many, many law enforcement officers with guns will be patrolling for uninvited gate-crashers.

So I pinned my hopes on the "miracle ticket" route pioneered by countless Deadheads who stood outside sold-out venues pleading for a "miracle" in the form of a ticket, rather free.

I intended to ride the light-rail trail from where I'm staying southwest of Denver to Invesco, debark, and hold up a "Need One Ticket" sign. It's been my experience that the larger the event, the greater the number of tickets floating around at the net minute.

The DNC has gone to great lengths to discourage the scalping and transferring of tickets. My plan hinged on the physical tickets not being electronically labelled to the original recipient's name. Surely someone would have an extra.

Competition is stiff. Supposedly thousands of Colorado residents are on a wait list for that state's ticket allocation. On Sunday, the Denver Post ran a narrative about Billy Pitt, a 76-year-old lifelong Democrat from Tennessee. His daughter bought him a plane ticket to Denver and offered $250 on Craigslist for an Invesco ticket. As of last weekend, she'd found no takers.

Ramsey Lewis has long straddled the limit between bop-oriented jazz and pop music. Most of his recordings (in particular by the mid-'60s) were identical accessible and attracted a gravid non-jazz audience. In 1956, he formed a triad with bassist Eldee Young and drummer Red Holt. From the part (1958), their records for Argo/Cadet were popular, although in the early days, they had a strong jazz content. In 1958, Lewis as well recorded with Max Roach and Lem Winchester. On the 1965 albums The In Crowd and Hang On, Ramsey made the piano player into a major attractiveness and from that point, on his records became much more than predictable and pop-oriented. In 1966, his trio's staff office office changed with bassist Cleveland Eaton and drummer Maurice White (later the founder of Earth, Wind & Fire) connection Lewis. In the 1970s, Lewis a great deal played electric pianissimo, although by later in the tenner he was relieved to acoustic and hiring an additional keyboardist. He can still dally melodic jazz when he wants to, but Ramsey Lewis has generally stuck to easy hearing pop music during the past 30 old age. In 2004 he released Time Flies, a look back at some of his most popular songs through new recordings.

When the Black Crowes either skint up or went on indefinite hiatus (depends on wHO you need and sometimes when you enquire), guitar player Rich Robinson exhausted a few months with his family at habitation, computation out what to do next. There were some deaths in his extended family that exactly added to how unusual it was adjusting to life without the Crowes, and how strange it was to be working on projects without his brother, singer Chris Robinson. He complete up edifice a studio in his Connecticut family and worked on his production chops. New avenues were opening, too, with Robinson composition the soundtrack for the 2001 film Highway piece severely working on his painting for the number one time since the Crowes had formed.

In 2003, he formed the four-piece isthmus Hookah Brown, which toured a bit before Robinson accomplished he couldn't stand isthmus politics any longer. Going it alone meant vocalizing lessons, since the guitarist had never handled lead vocals. It took one lesson for Robinson to realize his technique was all wrong. It built up his confidence and renewed his interest in releasing an album. Playing everything merely the drums himself, Robinson soon had sufficiency for an album. Joe Magistro took care of the drum parts, then node appearances from ex-Crowes keyboardist Eddie Hawrsch and BR5-49's Donnie Herron were added, and the album was done. Robinson released the result, Newspaper, in August of 2004 on his own Keyhole pronounce.

Busta Rhymes Lines Up Old Friends Linkin Park For New Single, 'We Made It'

Together, they made it. Busta Rhymes, Linkin Park and producers Cool & Dre proved that teamwork can reach across the world. The three collaborated for Busta Rhymes' new single, "We Made It."

"The [beat for the] Linkin Park record was given to me by Cool & Dre about seven months ago," Busta explained in a desolate building outside of Los Angeles on the set of the song's video. "I'm on a bus ride from New York to L.A., about 38 hours. Every time I'm on the bus, I listen to the collective of beats I get for my album, just to vibe. We was listening to that song one day when I heard the beat. Cool & Dre had the chorus on there. I was like, 'This record is one of the biggest anthems,' because it felt like it was speaking to the common man. It wasn't exploiting what we usually exploit in hip-hop: the ass, throwing money, rims on the car. At this time in my career, it felt like something was needed, something inspirational. It speaks to the man in the struggle from the 'hood to the upper echelon."
The video for "We Made It" was filmed at the same location where Linkin Park were photographed for their Meteora artwork. The connection goes back further than that, though. Busta first met Linkin Park when they were mixing their first album, Hybrid Theory, and Bus showed love to the up-and-coming squadron.
"Normally, I'm a little skeptical going into hip-hop tracks," Mike Shinoda said as he finished filming a scene in which he plays the piano. "This is the very first time Linkin Park have been featured on anybody else's song. We did the mash-up project with Jay-Z, but that was featuring his music and our music. It's an entirely different thing. What that all comes down to is the strength of the track. That's due in part to Cool & Dre and in part to Busta. When we came in, we did our thing to it and added that next level of something new and different. Each party had a mutual appreciation.
"We were touring in Asia at the time," he added. "We cut a lot of our parts in a studio in Taipei. It kinda fit the theme of the song 'We Made It.' We're recording vocals in China, halfway across the world. He's in New York and L.A. doing his thing. On this track, I got to know Busta a little better. He's very much that character, that personality that you see. But there is a side of him that's very humble and down-to-earth that other people don't get to see."
A couple of years ago, Busta Rhymes became associated with something longtime followers of his career never expected: crime. Whether it was the murder of his friend Israel Ramirez or his own multitude of run-ins with the police, the usually jovial Bus encountered major strife. With everything behind him, he's decided to change the title of his summer release from Back on My Bullsh-- (he insists the title, which was thought up by producer Pharrell Williams, will be the name of his next album) to Blessed.
" 'Blessed' sounded more right," Busta said on the set as director Chris Robinson filmed scenes outside. "It was the perfect way of giving thanks to how blessed I really have been. My last two years have been unnecessarily rigorous. A bunch of unpleasant things have been going on. Just getting past all of that, I felt I was truly blessed.
"They send a lot of our people to jail," he added. "I'm not just talking about black people, I'm talking about rap artists. You got [Mobb Deep's] Prodigy, Remy [Ma] in jail. T.I. with his recent situation. It's unfortunate and feels in an obvious way that we're being targeted for a lot of things, primarily because we're recording artists. I had four pending cases at one time. For me to be able to not have to endure any jail time, to get past that situation with just probation, I wanna just show my appreciation. It's the best feeling in the world. I'm happy. I'm in the best space of my life."
Blessed will be released July 1.
